  Hangzhou: City of Tea

Hangzhou was designated as “National Capital of Tea” in 2005.

Dragon Well Tea is undoubtedly the best known tea brand in China. It tops the top ten famous tea brands of China. Dragon Well is situated in mountains by the West Lake. Tu Long (1542-1605), an imperial graduate in the Ming Dynasty, mentioned Dragon Well Tea in a book he wrote and recorded tea production in the Dragon Well region. He even wrote a poem in praise of the good quality of Dragon Well Tea. It is the first time in history that Dragon Well Tea was documented in white and black.

Teahouses abound in the city. Some content their inconspicuous existences in backstreets and some nestle in lakeside boulevards. They are not only vehicles of the regional culture and tradition but also windows on the local lifestyle. Lakeview Teahouse is quite unique. It is on the West Lake with the whole vista of the lake in its windows and verandas.
