In a written interview with the Wall Street Journal ahead of a state visit to the United States, Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke about the Chinese dream as compared to the American dream, which has attracted much media attention.
When the Chinese Dream encounters the American Dream
Every nation has its own dream. Despite the Chinese dream and the American dream being different, their essences are interlined. The Chinese dream means an opportunity for the US and should not be considered a threat to them.
There does exist strategic competition between the two nations, yet such race is not a zero-sum game. Building a new model for Sino-US relations based on non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation should be the approach to fulfill a convergence between the Chinese dream and the American dream.
The fulfillment of the Chinese Dream relies on the Chinese people. China's development requires a peaceful and stable international environment with positive interactions between China and other countries, the US included.
President Xi’s state visit will continue the dialogue between the Chinese dream and the American dream.
The two countries hope to work together to enhance a new model of major country relations and to create a new future for Sino-US relations from the perspective of the fundamental interests of peoples in both countries and for human development and progress.
